Build Your Hopes On Things Eternal – Aug. 26

MOST OF US live in a house, whether it is a single or multiple family dwelling…
The house Paul mentions in 2 Corinthians 5:1, is the human body.
Like a dwelling houses people, this body houses within it the true person, the spirit of the person.
We cannot see that spirit, but as we are walking by faith we confidently, hopefully await the day in which we can be a home with the Lord (5:2).
We spend mountains of money on maintaining the body:
. Vitamins
. Medicine
. Cosmetic equipment
. Surgeries,
and the like.
It is all ultimately vain.
Paul’s encouragement is to invest in that home not made with hands.
All of us will stand before Christ in judgment.
Those physical, material things will have meant very little compared to the spiritual responsibilities we had and how we prepared for that final day.
While we go about our daily tasks in this body, tending to earthly responsibilities, may we never forget to keep building our hopes on things eternal! Where’s Your Focus? Aug. 25

YEARS AGO A boy found a five-dollar bill alongside the road.
Consequently, he rarely lifted his eyes from the ground where he was walking.
In the four decades that followed he accumulated:
- 29,516 buttons
- 54,172 pins
- 70 pennies
- a bent back
- a sour disposition.
By contrast, he lost the glories of the sunrise and sunset, the smile of good friends, the beauty of nature, as well as the opportunity to spread a little kindness with passersby.
We rob our lives of meaning and purpose when we focus our attention on material values.
When we search primarily for financial gain, we may find momentary satisfaction, but we miss so very much.
The Bible says, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of things he possesses” (Luke 12:15; cf. 1 Tim. 6:17-19).
Think about it.
