FORMER EDUCATION SECRETARY William Bennett and his wife attended a “modern” wedding back in ’93.
As the bride and groom repeated their vows, they pledged to remain together “for as long as love shall last…”
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett heard the exchange and then decided to send disposable plates as their wedding gift because if the couple really kept their vows, the relationship was severed a few days after the honeymoon and the nice wedding gifts were divided through the help of a divorce lawyer.
Someone once said, “Too many marry for better or worse, but not for good…”
Sadly, that’s all too true today.
By contrast, God’s plan for marriage is, and always has been:
- One man
- One woman
- For LIFE
Gen. 2:24; Mat. 19:6
That may not be very “modern,” but it is certainly right.
“Till death do us part…” is not some archaic phrase of days gone by.
It still needs to be said and practiced today.
